26 September 2011 Cleaning of Caspian coastline launched within Caspian Sea Week in Azerbaijan
Cleaning of Caspian coastline launched within Caspian Sea Week in Azerbaijan Within the framework of the Week of the Caspian Sea (22-28 September) Tamiz Shahar OJSC (Clean City) and the Union of Student Youth Organizations of Azerbaijan arranged a subbotnik (a volunteer work day) on the beach area of Mardakan settlement of Khazar district of Baku.
The Company reports that campaign "Let’s Clean the City!" is the fourth subbotnik conducted on the territory of Khazar district. Within the campaign the coastal zone of Mardakan was cleared of debris and rubbish, and collected garbage was taken to the Balakhani solid waste landfill for deactivation.
The main purpose of the action was to preserve cleanness of our capital, receipt of public support for expanding enlightening work and raising awareness among the population. With the support of public centre "EcoSphere", along with the students the event was also attended by pupils. The total number of the subbotnik participants was about 2,000 people.
